I worked as a sales and technical support in Brunei for a few years but as a Malaysian living in Brunei there weren’t many opportunities for growth or stability because it’s very difficult for any foreigner in Brunei to be granted permanent residency or citizenship.
β
My employer was also facing increasing difficulties in hiring foreign staff and while he was able to secure a visa for me, he wasn’t sure how long he could keep doing so. When I found out about NEXT Academy, I decided to apply for the bootcamp.
β
During my time in NEXT, every day was an opportunity for growth and learning. There were days when I got stuck and couldn’t continue on my own but the mentors were always there to guide me on how to continue forward. I also got to meet people from all sorts of backgrounds with all kinds of ideas to apply their newfound programming skills onto, and it showed to me that this isn’t a career with just a single path – it’s an entire world of possibilities and I’m excited to be part of it!
β
I’m currently working as a React developer and, as someone who previously worked in an unrelated field, I was amazed how smooth it was to transition into this role. It’s all because NEXT gave me the prep I needed – not just the programming knowledge – but also the experience in working with a group to work on a project from start to finish.
β
Studying at NEXT was just the start that I needed to get my foot into the world of web development!
