I came into NEXT from a background in healthcare and physiotherapy, and with absolutely no coding experience. I knew I didn’t want to continue on the path of a physiotherapist and that I wanted to try my luck in the tech industry. I ended up joining NEXT on the recommendation of a friend for two reasons: to gain coding knowledge and also to get a feel of what the tech industry is like.
β
Two months after graduating from NEXT, I started my first tech-related job and I am currently working as a junior project manager in a software company.
β
I think NEXT has definitely helped me to prepare for my current job by exposing me to the different coding languages and motivating me to keep learning. The information supplied about the many opportunities and job application tips really helped me to prepare for my job. Furthermore, my role during the final group project was to plan out features, prioritise them and delegate tasks to my teammates, and it was during this time that I realised I might have a knack for project management.
β
I think my favourite experience of the bootcamp was getting to know other people who were in a similar situation: coming from non-tech backgrounds, wanting to learn a new skill, looking for a career switch and wanting to improve our coding skills. As a result, we were able to relate to each other very well as we were all facing a new adventure ahead together. The mentors are amazing at teaching and motivating us to keep learning. They made learning how to code very enjoyable.
β
NEXT has definitely opened a lot of doors for me; they are very reputable with tech companies and in the start-up scene. Recruiters are always excited to hire NEXT graduates and are very familiar with the bootcamp courses at NEXT, so they are fully aware of the calibre of graduates that NEXT produces.
